Pomar and Bordalo. Assemblages

The Bordalo Pinheiro Museum opened, on March 14th, the exhibition “POMAR E BORDALO. Assemblages”.

In order to mark the centenary of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro’s death in 2005, Ana Maria Viegas, from Galeria Ratton, invited Júlio Pomar to go to the Bordallo Pinheiro Factory to create a set of unique ceramic pieces, based on Bordalo’s original molds. Pomar chose original pieces created by Bordalo Pinheiro at the end of the 19th century, which in the 20th century are still part of the factory’s catalogue. The pieces the artist chose for his new creation represent animals and plants in a naturalistic way: cats, bulls, chickens, pigs, crabs, fish or cabbage leaves.

To establish this unusual relationship between Pomar and Bordalo, two museums of Lisboa Cultura, the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum and the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, joined forces with Galeria Ratton, adding other pieces to those central works, produced in ceramics.

The exhibition can be seen until June 22.
